The optics use two Super ED (Special Low Dispersion) lenses and ED lenses to effectively eliminate chromatic aberrations that degrade the image quality of the telephoto lens.
It also features 3 HR (High Refractive Index) lenses to reduce the amount of aberration and eliminate various aberrations for excellent performance in any zoom area - "MSC Mechanism" for fast and quiet autofocus operation.
The MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) mechanism is an advanced optical design technology developed to deliver fast, quiet focusing with a light weight and less lens count.
Eliminates gear that can cause operational sounds, and uses a mechanism with metal axis (shaft) and feed screw (screw drive) that has been finished with submicron precision, which drives the lens for focus.
This lens uses an inner focus method using the MSC mechanism. Small and lightweight lenses (welded lenses) allow optimal control of the movement of the two lenses for focusing.
